About the client
The Ministry of Justice is the auxiliary office of the Minister of Justice, the chief body of state administration responsible for the Justice government administration department. As part of its activities, the Ministry is responsible for the maintenance of many key state registers, including the National Court Register (KRS), the National Criminal Register (KRK), the Sex Offenders Register (RSPTS), the Register of Pledges, the Real Estate Register and others.
The challenge
The main goal of the project was to create a reporting environment based on Power BI technology and a tabular model as a data source. The implementation of the order also included the creation of several dozen defined reports.
What we did
The architecture of the solution was based on the construction of the in-memory analytic layer (analytical model) and data layer – Data Mart. The process of extraction, transformation and data loading (ETL) was built through programmatically generated Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages and scheduled using SQL Server Agent tasks. The source of data is the KRK database. Reporting is provided by the Power BI Report Server service. The scope of work included:
- Implementation of the Power BI reporting tool along with the creation of defined reports
- Building an analytical model
- Implementation of the database constituting the Mart Data System of the KRK
- Starting the power supply process
- Execution of 102 dedicated reports
- Users’ training in building reports in Power BI
Effects
Prepared reports have improved reporting and provide export capabilities to selected formats. The users were also trained both from the operation of the PowerBI tool itself, as well as from the use of the prepared analytical model. This gives the opportunity to build analyzes by the KRK employees themselves.
